wahoo for tropical storm warnings and hurricane watches!
so as you can see from the title of this entry, my vacation is getting a little bit damp.
today can best be described by the following line from my favorite kenny chesney song (i know, i know, im obsessed with the man from tennessee... but come on now, who isnt really? *wink*)
"the sun and the sand and a drink in my hand...." cuz pretty much from time i got up, i did absolutely nothing constructive (as if i really should - i am on vacation and that is what a vacation, at least every once and a while, should be). we had breakfast and did a bit of running around. i bought another piece of larimar. this time it was a heart shaped pendant and a tear drop shaped ring. like i said... needing lots of luck in teh love area and maybe all this larimar (they do call it the love stone...) with help me out a bit.
so after that i spent a few hours down at the beach sleeping a good bit. then i went up to the pool for the rest of hte afternoon. it got cloudy around 230 or so and never recovered from there. the hotel staff was going around stacking all the chairs because the wind was kicking up a bit. come to find out... TROPICAL STORM JEANNE is getting ready to attack puerto rico as we speak and should be brushing the north side of the dominican republic around 8am tomorrow morning. this means several things for me a) tomorrow is likely to be a very wet and windy day b) i am unfortunately probably not going to get to go out on the party boat and snorkle and 3) i will get to experience a REAL LEGITIMATE (this is noted specifically for you kate martell... i am definitely not hallucinating this hurricane... nor was i hallucinating the last one but that is neither here nor there) HURRICANE-TYPE THINGY.
this to me is a bit exciting because yes, i am a freak, and also because i dont live in florida and my home is not in any danger of being destroyed by a nasty weather phenomenom at the moment. seeing as how i live in kentucky and i am told that we DO NOT get hurricanes there, i am slightly excited by the prospect of experiencing one first hand although i am rather disappointed that this new and exciting adventure is the demise of my exciting trip out on the party boat and a rather damp end to my week away from life as i know it and live it. seeing as how i live in the fine state of kentucky, experiencing a hurricane is something that most people will never have the chance to do. as you know, i am one of those people who likes to try things that many other people shy away from. expect to see my best attempt at photographing this experience. that is if the scary guys with guns dont arrest me for wandering around the beach with a large storm surge like a lunatic seeing as how we have already been warned that we should not go near the beach from now until they say so. you should also know me enough to know that when someone tells me not to push the big red button, im gonna push the big red button just to see what happens.
basically what i am trying to say is as follows. there is no need to panic. we are assured by the hotel staff that we are in no immediate danger. however if we were to be in any immediate danger, they are well prepared to try to save us from the danger that my new friend JEANNE poses to our vitality. im not sure exactly how they plan to accomplish this because we are on an island and there is not a lot of places we can really go to get away. maybe the fine staff here at the cataloƱia bavaro possess some power unbeknownst to is patrons that resembles the powers of one of my favorite x-men, storm, and they can just snap their fingers and have sunny days from here on out. lets hope that is the case.
although this vacation will most likely end on soggy note, i have enjoyed it a lot. look for a blog entry tomorrow detailing my harrowing adventures trying to document what is likely to be my one and only ride through a hurricane. that is if i dont get blown away (that would be one hell of a wind gust to blow my huge bum away) or i get swallowed by a 200 foot high storm surge...
... i wanna know... have you ever seen the rain??? at least my sense of humor hasnt gotten all wet. ha ha ha.
